Television star Larry King has been hospitalised after testing positive for COVID-19.

The star is being treated at a Los Angeles hospital, CNN reports.

A source close to the family said that the 87-year-old has been undergoing treatment at Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre for over a week.

Due to the protocols at the hospital, King’s family are unable to visit him.

“Larry has fought so many health issues in the last few years and he is fighting this one hard too, he’s a champ,” a source told US broadcaster ABC News.

The celebrity interviewer has battled many medical issues in recent years, including heart attacks and a diagnosis with diabetes and lung cancer.

Last year, two of his five children passed away within weeks of each other.

His son Andy King died of a heart attack at 65 in August, while his daughter Chaia King died from lung cancer in July aged 51.

Shortly after the news broke, the US television personality wrote in a post on Facebook: “It is with sadness and a father’s broken heart that I confirm the recent loss of two of my children, Andy King, and Chaia King. Both of them were good and kind souls and they will be greatly missed.

“Andy passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack on July 28th, and Chaia passed on August 20th, only a short time after having been diagnosed with lung cancer,” he wrote.

“Losing them feels so out of order. No parent should have to bury a child.

“My family and I thank you for your outpouring of kind sentiments and well wishes,” he added.

Larry, 86, adopted Andy in 1962 after he married his mother, Alene Akins. Larry and Akins had Chaia in 1969.
