In an essay for Cosmopolitan in 2015 Winnie revealed that she had been bullied for years as a child because of the condition.
“Kids called me a cow and mooed at me” in primary school, Winnie said, with the bullying escalating to physical violence as she got older.
“One boy would moo loudly at me every time we walked into an assembly, and everyone would laugh,” she wrote.
“I didn’t talk much to my mum about the bullies. I just tried to get through each day. I remember sitting by my window, wishing upon the stars that my skin condition would go away. I wondered, “Why me?”
