Menounos told People magazine she underwent surgery last month to remove a golf-ball-sized tumour discovered in February.

“I didn’t cry. I actually laughed,” she recalled. “It’s so surreal and crazy and unbelievable that my mum has a brain tumour — and now I have one too?”

She said 99.9 per cent of the tumour was removed during the seven-hour procedure on June 8, but admitted there’s a small chance that it could come back.

The 39-year-old said her face is still numb from the surgery but should be back to normal soon.

The US gossip queen, who has worked for E!, Extra and Access Hollywood, is also caring for her mother, who has cancer.

She said she sees the experience as a “blessing” that brought her family closer and led her to re-evaluate her life.

“We’re caretakers as women and we put ourselves last,” she said. “I tell people all the time if your car is making a weird noise, you take it to the mechanic. How come when our body is making weird noises, we ignore it? I’m so lucky that I went to the doctor and raised the alarm.”

E! News said in a statement that Menounos was leaving the network after three years. The cable network says it believes Menounos will tackle her health struggles “with the same fierce dedication she is known for.”

Menounos jetted into Melbourne in October last year for the spring racing carnival.
