There’s a reason why Disney princesses always wear blue

Thursday - 28/12/2017 15:37
FROM Cinderella to Frozen’s Elsa, Snow White to Sleeping Beauty, there’s a very particular reason why all Disney princesses are decked out in blue.

DISNEY princesses may be a better role model for your kids than you had realised — and it’s all to do with their choice of clothing.

What do Snow White, Cinderella, Belle, Aurora, Elsa, Jasmine, Ariel and Alice in Wonderland all have in common?

The iconic cartoon idols all wear light, icy or sky blue dresses. And no, it’s not a coincidence — it’s meant to “empower” young girls, reports The Sun.

Blue is the colour of trust, calm and serenity — as well as that of confidence.

Designer Christopher Kane told Elle magazine: “When you think of every Disney heroine — Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Jasmine — they’re all wearing blue! It’s a thing, Disney Blue.”

“You’re adding a bit of power to the character by giving her the blue,” Leatrice Eiseman of the Pantone Color Institute told Allure.

“It’s a very subtle way of saying, ‘Yeah, but young women, young girls, can be empowered, too.’”

While sky blue is also a symbol of positivity and hope, Eiseman added: “It’s dependable. It’s reliable. It might cloud up, but we know it’s there.”

And Disney’s sending a third very important message with the dresses — that blue isn’t just for boys, and not all princesses have to be pretty in pink.
